The Mississippi Department of Health is reporting an additional 672 cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi, bringing the total number of cases reported since the onset of the virus to 99, 558.
The highest concentration of cases have occurred in Hinds County with 7, 263 cases reported.
With the confirmation of 20 additional deaths, 2, 999 Mississippians have passed away from the virus. Sixteen deaths occurred between September 3rd and October 1st, and four occurred between August 26th and September 25th, identified from death certificates.
Included in these totals are 25 new cases identified among residents in long-term care facilities, and 11 deaths. There are currently 122 ongoing outbreaks of COVID-19 in long-term care facilities.
Hospitalizations appear to be declining with the last report of 450 patients with confirmed COVID-19 infection.
Currently, the 25 to 39 age group represents the largest number of cases at 22, 778, followed by age 50 to 64 with 20, 190 cases, and age 65+ has the third highest rate of cases at 16, 458.
Governor Tate Reeves allowed the statewide mask mandate to expire on Wednesday. A new executive order has been signed which will keep certain social distancing guidelines in effect until at least mid-November.
