WEST POINT, Miss. — If you’re anxious to work for Yokohama at its new tire plant in West Point, the company plans to first hire you and about 500 of your hourly paid co-workers.
“Those are gonna be generally mechanically inclined skilled specific jobs, running different types of machinery, said Rob Harrelson, Yokohama Tire Corporation vice present of Human Resources and Administration.
But you if you don’t have experience, don’t let that keep you from applying. Yokohama has teamed up with East Mississippi Community College (EMCC). “And they will be put through a series of training programs to get them prepared and provided with the skill sets where they can be employable, not only with Yokohama, but a lot of the different manufacturing companies that are in the tri-county,” explained Harrelson.
Workers in the West Point area already have an advantage over other applicants. “One of our big hiring goals is to hire a good majority of our population directly from that community,” Harrelson said.
The first available jobs are expected to be posted late next year and will be listed on the Yokohama, East Mississippi Community College and Mississippi Development Authority websites, as well as here on NewsMS.fm
