Four Mississippi baseball players have been tabbed preseason All-Americans by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Southern Miss ace Tanner Hall and Ole Miss shortstop Jacob Gonzalez were selected as first-teamers, while Rebels pitcher Hunter Elliot and Mississippi State second baseman Amani Larry were named to the second and third teams, respectively.
Hall, a consensus 2022 All-American, compiled a 9-3 record with a 2.81 ERA for the Golden Eagles last season. His 146 strikeouts were good enough for fourth in the nation on the way to being named both Conference USA Pitcher of the Year and Ferriss Trophy Winner.
Gonzalez, who has now been selected as a preseason All-American for the second straight year, will serve as an infield staple for the defending national champions. Last season, he posted a .273 batting average with 18 home runs.
Elliott, entering his sophomore season, went 5-3 with a 2.70 ERA in 20 appearances in 2022. The left-hander began to garner national attention with four sound postseason appearances en route to the team’s first championship in program history.
Larry, going into his first season with Mississippi State after transferring from New Orleans, was an offensive powerhouse for the Privateers in 2022, hitting .377 with 78 hits and 56 RBI.
