WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., a senior member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, met with Wilbur Ross regarding his nomination to be Secretary of Commerce under President-elect Trump.
Wicker said the nominee could mean big improvements in business nationwide and in Mississippi.
“Mr. Ross and I discussed a variety of topics, including ways to spur economic development and create jobs” Wicker said. “After years of weak economic growth and unjustified federal regulations, American workers are ready for a resurgence. I am confident that Mr. Ross is up for that challenge. He is well-qualified to lead the Commerce Department, and I look forward to working with him to help make our economy great again.”
The Senate Commerce Committee has legislative jurisdiction for the Department of Commerce including nominations subject to Senate confirmation.
The Secretary of Commerce heads the Department of Commerce, which works with businesses, universities, communities, and the Nation’s workers to promote job creation, economic growth, sustainable development, and improved standards of living for Americans.
The Department focuses on several key areas including trade and investments, innovation, environment, data, and operational excellence.
