NATCHEZ, Miss.- Residents and officials in Natchez are gearing up for the city’s 300th birthday.
The founding of Natchez occurred in 1716 and the tri-centennial will be celebrated on August 3. The city will host an all day celebration with activities for the whole family including a candle that will be blown out to commemorate the birthday.
The events will begin at 9 a.m. according to the Natchez Democrat. The day kicks off with an opening ceremony at the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians with Principal Chief and Great Sun of the Natchez nation Hutke Fields.
There will also be a presentation by historian Jim Barnett to celebrate the city’s rich history.
It’s also a great event for the kids. There will be children’s activities including art projects, and artifact displays.
