D1Baseball has released its All-America teams for the recently concluded college baseball season.
National runner-up Texas A&M led the way with the most selections at five, including Madison Central alum and star outfielder Braden Montgomery. In his first season with the Aggies after transferring from Stanford, Montgomery batted .322 with 27 home runs – tied for 11th most in the country. Montgomery, who added two appearances on the mound, was named to the second team. He is expected to be a top-10 pick in next month’s MLB Draft.
Over in Starkville, Mississippi State landed one player on the third team. That was Friday night starter Khal Stephen, who finished the season with an 8-3 overall record with a 3.28 earned run average and 107 strikeouts.
Joining Stephen on the third team was St. Andrew’s Episcopal alum and Appalachian State outfielder Banks Tolley. Tolley, in his first season with the Mountaineers after transferring from Ole Miss, led the Sun Belt with 26 home runs. He added a team-high 77 RBI to go along with a .379 batting average.
Noticeably missing from the list was Mississippi State outfielder Dakota Jordan. Jordan had previously been named to All-American teams released by Baseball America and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
As for Ole Miss, it was the third year in a row no Rebels landed on D1Baseball’s All-America squad.
