Three Mississippi attractions have been listed among the “150 Best Things to Do in the United States this Summer” by Travel Lemming.
Each year, Travel Lemming’s team of two dozen writers and editors personally handpick attractions with the goal of highlighting the country’s hidden gems.
The annual selection includes a diverse array of attractions located throughout the nation, with Bay St. Louis’ Pirate Day in the Bay ranking 27th on the list. Locals are invited to “dress up like a pirate, hunt for treasure, and enjoy the family-friendly atmosphere” during the yearly two-day event, which is set to kick off on Friday, May 19.
Coming in at 49th on the list is Jackson’s annual Mississippi Book Festival, which invites attendees to meet dozens of authors, participate in panel discussions, and network with thousands of other readers. The “literary lawn party” is typically held in mid-August at the state capitol.
Brent’s Drugs in Jackson’s Fondren neighborhood is later included as the 119th best attraction on the list for its classic soda fountain treat. The former pharmacy and soda fountain, which was first opened in 1946, now serves as a diner and venue for local events.
“Many believe that international travel is key to experiencing different cuisines, art, history, and ways of life,” Abigail Bliss, Editor at Travel Lemming, commented. “But each region of the U.S. emanates a unique culture and is rich in new experiences—which are often more economical and easily accessible.”
