Over $230 million is being invested into a solar panel farm in Chickasaw County.
The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors recently announced that Florida-based NextEra Energy will be bringing a 145-megawatt photovoltaic solar generation facility to the Okolona area. The project will take up approximately 1,700 acres and land at a total investment of $234 million.
According to a Facebook post from Supervisor Margaret Futral, the project won’t cost the county anything and is expected to generate around $52 million in additional revenue over the next 30 years.
“The company will help support the local economy through purchases of regional goods and services,” Futral wrote. “It is a great day for Chickasaw County!”
The construction phase of the NextEra Energy project will begin in 2025 and create 200 jobs. As of now, no timeline has been set on when the solar panel farm will open.
