PASCAGOULA, Miss.- A Moss Point man will spend the next 20 years behind bars for downloading more than 3,000 images and movies of children engaged in sexual activity.
The Sun Herald reports Circuit Judge Kathy King Jackson sentenced Michael Angel, 50, to a total of 30 years in prison, with 20 years to be served and 10 years of post-release supervision.
In addition, the judge ordered him to pay a $10,000 fine, court costs, $100 to the Crime Victims Compensation fund and $2,000 to the Mississippi Children’s Trust Fund.
Angel pleaded guilty in March to three counts of child exploitation.
Jackson County sheriff’s investigators arrested Angel at his home in October 2010 after they investigated what was going on for about a month.
District Attorney Tony Lawrence said Thursday that countless children were abused during the creation of the images and videos and Angel participated in that abuse by downloading and viewing them.
He will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
