Two Mississippi lottery players won big after purchasing winning tickets for the Mega Millions and Mississippi Match 5 drawings.
On Wednesday, one Hinds County resident claimed a $4 million prize from a Mega Millions ticket purchased from the January 3 drawing. The player said she normally chooses her own numbers, but for this drawing decided on the Quick Pick option. She also purchased the $1 Megaplier option, increasing her initial win of $1 million to $4 million – the largest win in Mississippi Lottery history.
Another player in Clay County also secured a $905,168 win from the Mississippi Match 5 drawing on Tuesday, which is the largest in the game’s history. He stated that he typically buys several tickets for the in-state draw game every few weeks and always selects the Quick Pick option.
“Visiting with both winners today was extraordinary,” Mississippi Lottery President Jeff Hewitt said. “We enjoyed learning about their plans for their wins and why they enjoy playing Mississippi Lottery games. It’s always a great day when we have winners; but having two record-setting winners claim on the same day was an enjoyable experience for Lottery staff.”
There is still one Powerball prize worth $500,000 that remains unclaimed, which is set to expire on Thursday. The winning ticket was purchased on Aug. 13 in McComb at Broadway Mart.
