Eight months after Southern Miss football player MJ Daniels was shot and killed at a Hattiesburg apartment complex, two individuals have fessed up to their roles in the shedding of innocent blood.
Allen Marcus Gardner pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit armed robbery while Samir Green pleaded guilty to first-degree murder on Wednesday. The two are among four charged in the George County native’s death. One of the other suspects, Nytavian Shaw, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder this past October. The fourth suspect, Orlando May, has yet to enter into a plea agreement.
Daniels, a former four-star defensive back prospect out of high school, transferred to Southern Miss in 2022 after spending two seasons at Ole Miss. He was poised to be an integral part of the Golden Eagles’ most recent campaign, but his tragic killing at Ivy Row Apartments last June shook the Southern Miss football scene as well as the entire Pine Belt region.
All four individuals connected to Daniels’ slaying will likely face lengthy prison sentences. Sentencing dates have not yet been announced.
