Two Memphis, Tenn. women have been arrested for human trafficking in northeast Mississippi.

A report of possible prostitution at a local motel in Tupelo on Monday led authorities to arrest Terraneika Poplar, 19, and Destiney Plummer, 20. An investigation conducted by law enforcement found the two to be involved in human trafficking.

In addition to the arrests, Tupelo police, with the assistance of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Mississippi Department of Child Protective Services, and the Center for Violence Prevention, were able to rescue a female juvenile at the scene.

“This is a despicable crime and TPD will use all available resources to make sure these offenders, or any future offenders, are brought to justice,” Tupelo Police Chief John Quaka said. “It saddens me that this type of crime occurs.”

Poplar and Plummer appeared in court for their initial appearance on Tuesday. Both were denied bond by judge Willie Allen.
