Oxford police arrested one man in connection with a robbery and shooting at a local hotel.
On Sunday, an emergency call detailing gunshots at a hotel room prompted officers to respond. When law enforcement arrived and cleared the hotel, they found no one inside. Soon after they were notified that a victim had been admitted to the emergency room at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
An investigation revealed that multiple individuals had been in the hotel room at the time of the shooting. An altercation had apparently occurred, during which a suspect demanded money and wielded a firearm. The ensuing struggle led to the gun being fired multiple times and striking one victim, who received non-life-threatening injuries.
Oxford officers located and arrested 18-year-old Christopher Suggs, Jr. without incident on Tuesday. He is charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault.
“I’m incredibly proud of the diligent work of our officers and investigators. Thanks to their dedication and quick action, we were able to bring this case to a resolution in less than 48 hours,” Chief of Police Jeff McCutchen said. “Their commitment to keeping our community safe is evident in the way they handled this investigation.”
The investigation into the shooting and the robbery is ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at (662)234-8799.
