A 15-year-old mother in Macon is not facing charges for abandoning her newborn baby in the woods just minutes after giving birth, according to Macon Police Chief Davine Beck.
Beck told WCBI that the baby boy is in stable condition after being left in a wooded area outside of the mother’s home for at least 30 minutes on Thursday morning.
Police received a call from one of the mother’s family members, who stated that the family did not know the teen was pregnant.
“None of the family members really even knew that she was pregnant… They were unaware that she was in the bathroom giving birth and they were unaware that she took the baby outside, put it in a wooded area, and came back in the house and basically took a bath,” said Beck.
The newborn and mother were then transported to the emergency room after a relative found the baby in the woods nearby.
As of now, the baby boy is alive and in good condition as the Department of Human Services investigates the case. Charges will not be filed against the 15-year-old as the newborn was not been harmed.
