TUPELO, Miss.–It was announced Monday that around 1,400 Lee County workers are expected to be laid off from Lane Furniture.
This comes on the heals of Furniture Brands International filing for bankruptcy and giving official notice to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security Commission.
Community Development Foundation president David Rumbarger in Tupelo told WCBI they’re getting involved to try and help the displaced workers.
Part of that is a national emergency grant that has been applied for to help re-train some of the employees to hopefully help them find new jobs in the area. This help from the CDF will include help in searching for new jobs and on-the-job training.
