During the inaugural United States Football League Draft (USFL) Draft that took place earlier this week, a slew of players with Mississippi ties heard their names called.
The players from colleges in Mississippi drafted were:

- TE Julian Allen, Southern Miss (Round 34, Pick 9 by the Houston Gamblers)
Unlike the NFL Draft, the USFL Draft is by position, beginning with quarterbacks in Round 1. Edge rushers and defensive ends are selected in Rounds 2 through 4, followed by offensive tackles in Rounds 5 through 7. Cornerbacks are selected in Rounds 8 through 11 before teams move back to the quarterback position in Round 12. That’s just the first day of the draft.
Then on Day 2, the positional order consists of wide receivers in Rounds 13 through 17, safeties in Rounds 18 and 19, centers in Round 20, inside linebackers in Round 21, offensive guards in Round 22 and 23, interior defensive linemen in Rounds 24 through 26, running backs and fullbacks in Rounds 27 and 28, outside linebackers in Rounds 29 through 31, kickers in Round 32, punters in Round 33, tight ends and H-backs in Round 34, and long snappers in Round 35.
